A Warrior's Prayer by Gary Steffes

Father Almighty, I praise and thank You for the privilege to play my sport today. I am honored to compete for Christ, the Name above every other name. For from You and through You and to You are all things. To You, Lord, be the glory forever! Thank You for the blessing to compete today.  
 
Father, You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, to save me from my sin and make me right with You. He literally took on flesh, dwelt among mankind, lived a perfect, sinless life, and then chose to willingly die in our place for our sin. On that cross, He died, but on the third day He rose from the grave in victory, conquering Satan, sin, death, and the wrath of God. Now, anyone who calls on Him, confessing with their mouth Jesus as Lord and believing in their heart He was raised from the dead will be saved. Lord, I am so thankful. By Your grace, I am saved and reconciled to you. My career is Yours. 
 
Father, You have given me a new identity. I am not defined by my performance and what others think; I am who You declare me to be. I am deeply loved, totally accepted, absolutely significant, completely secure, entirely new, and purposefully sent. I am strong in the Lord. for the Word of God abides in me and I have overcome the evil one. I am victorious and more than a conqueror through Christ. Today, I OWN this in my heart. I choose the enter competition standing upon the truth.  

Father, You have given me a new purpose. My sport is not my identity; it is my tool to impact lives for Jesus Christ. My sport is the means through which I get to build relationships, impact lives, and reach people for Jesus Christ. I am a citizen of heaven, a witness, an ambassador for Jesus Christ. I am a chosen instrument to bear Your Name in this sport’s world. I am fearfully and wonderfully made, gifted by You for this moment, to impact the exact lives you created me to impact. Lord, please fill me with Your Spirit and give me grace to not only win championships but souls to Christ.
 
Father, You are the One who strengthens me, helps me, and upholds me with Your righteous right hand. You work all things together for the good of those who love You and are called according to Your purpose. You withhold no good thing from those who walk uprightly. You are good and faithful. I know I can trust You.  
 
Father, today, I choose to surrender and commit this game to You. I surrender my anxieties, fears, concerns, and current circumstances. I surrender my playing time, stats, reputation, the scouts in the stands, and future. I choose to accept the past and move forward with my eyes fixed on You.  
 
Father, I am utterly dependent on You. Apart from You I can do nothing. Please give me strength to compete for Christ, and for Your glory and honor!  
 
In Jesus Name! Amen
